It is common across the U.S. and especially in rural areas for wild animals to venture into the road from raccoons and armadillos to deer and larger wildlife. Unfortunately, these collisions are known to cause serious damage to vehicles on the road. Even if you are parked, animals like birds and squirrels and wreak havoc on your bike.
Fortunately, motorcycle insurance does generally cover damage caused by wild animals. This coverage is known as comprehensive coverage and collision coverage.
Comprehensive coverage provides compensation for damages to your motorcycle caused by fire, wind, hail, lightning, smoke, theft, vandalism, falling objects and more. If a bird attacks your parked motorcycle for example and causes damage, it will likely be covered under this insurance.
Collision coverage, on the other hand, covers damages to your motorcycle caused by a collision with another vehicle or object. If the vehicle is in motion and you collide with a wild animal, damages to your motorcycle may be covered under collision insurance.
